Bed-partner Information
According to a report from the Mayo Clinic, bedpartners of snorers may lose an hour of sleep every night.
At the very least, snoring is an obnoxious irritation! In addition, loud, continuous snoring can have significant health consequences for the bed-partner. Many couples resort to sleeping in separate bedrooms and some even have homes designed to accommodate a noisy snorer.
Studies show that when the snoring of one partner is treated, the bed-partner's sleep quality is improved leading to better health.
Other studies demonstrate that the bed-partner's mood, daytime alertness, quality of life and personal relationship with the snorer is improved when the snoring is resolved.
Research in 2003 showed that the bed-partners of snorers may experience noise-induced hearing loss over time. Bed partners of snorers wake up tired and irritable leadig to depression and deterioration of relationships.
What can you do if your bed partner snores?
Talk to him/her about the seriousness of the problem and get him/her to a physician or dentist trained to recognize and treat snoring and apnea problems. Realize, of course, that there will be denial, and perhaps embarrassment on the part of your partner.
Snoring and sleep apnea treatment can restore health and harmony for both.
